Berlin-based technology company Akhetonics, known for its all-optical digital processors, raised €6 million in an equity funding round.
Matterwave Ventures led the investment round. Additional participation came from investors such as 468 Capital, Bayern Kapital, and existing backers including Runa Capital, Rheingau Founders, and others.
Founded in 2022 by CEO Michael Kissner, Akhetonics specializes in developing an all-optical digital processor, a new technology that uses light instead of traditional electronic signals for computation. Their technology has the potential to enhance computing performance significantly while improving energy efficiency.
The all-optical digital processor technology is particularly applicable for industries where low latency, predictable performance, and resistance to electromagnetic interference are critical, such as aviation, defense, and networking.
According to the official press statement, the newly raised funds will be used to bring Akhetonics’ hardware to pilot customers as demand for high-performance, energy-efficient computing continues to grow. The startup is targeting 2026 to showcase a full prototype of its processor, marking a critical step toward integrating its technology into its first commercial product.
