Gemesys, an AI chip developer based in Bochum, Germany, has secured €8.6 million in pre-seed funding.
The pre-seed investment round was led by Amadeus APEX Technology Fund and Atlantic Labs, with participation from NRW.BANK, Sony Innovation Fund, and Plug and Play Tech Center.
Additionally, the German government provided grant funding to support the round.
Started as a spin-off from Ruhr-University Bochum, Gemesys specializes in developing AI chips utilizing memristors—novel electronic components that facilitate highly efficient neural network processing. Its AI chips are designed for on-device training and inference, enhancing various Edge AI applications. The company currently comprises a team of 19 members.
The Gemesys innovative AI chips are designed to overcome traditional computing bottlenecks by emulating the human brain’s information-processing mechanisms. Their analog chip design is expected to increase training efficiency by a factor of 10,000, offering new capabilities in AI inference and enabling on-the-edge training with low power consumption.
